Mal has been working in the financial services industry since 1966 having commenced his career at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Town and Country Building Society and other financial institutions until founding Mal Dobson & Associates in 1987.
He is an Authorised Representative of Financial Services Partners Pty Ltd. Mal has completed a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning). Mal is an Associate member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
In 2010 Mal was recognised for his dedication to enriching the financial planning industry by being awarded a fellow membership of the FPA. A Fellow of the FPA is an outstanding practitioner who has made a selfless contribution to the profession and provides exemplary leadership to their peers.
From 1971 to 1981, Mal played Australian Rules football for East Fremantle Football Club in the Western Australia National Football League (WANFL now known as WAFL), playing 176 games and earning life membership status. Mal is actively involved in volunteer organisations within the community, having previously coached junior football in the East Fremantle junior football district for over twelve years.
Along with his son Steve, Mal is a senior firefighter and brigade treasurer with the Jandakot Volunteer Bushfire Brigade. Mal is also a volunteer member of the Department of Environment and Conservation Jandakot Regional Parks Committee.
With a long term vision for Mal Dobson & Associates, the succession of the firm has been secured with the employment of family members who have a like mind for providing outstanding service to our clients.
Steve Dobson JP, B.Bus(FP), AFP, GAICD, SSA
Financial Planner
Steve is an Authorised Representative of Financial Services Partners Pty Ltd. He has worked as a Financial Planner and in consultant roles with Mal Dobson & Associates since 1999, having previously served as a Police Officer.
He has completed a Bachelor of Business (Financial Planning) with distinction, an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services, a Diploma of Public Safety (Policing), a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance Broking), the Company Directors Course Diploma and a Certificate in Self Managed Superannuation Funds. He is currently completing a Master of Business Administration.
Steve holds several professional memberships including Associate membership of the Financial Planning Association of Australia, a SMSF Specialist Advisor member of the Self Managed Super Fund Professionals Association of Australia and a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is the WA Chapter Secretary and sits on the national membership committee with the Financial Planning Association of Australia
Steve is a Justice of the Peace, volunteer firefighter with Jandakot Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, member of Fremantle Football Club, East Fremantle Football Club and Cockburn Lakes Amateur Football Club.
Alex Cheng B.Com(Hons), Adv Dip FS(FP), AFP
Financial Planner
Alex is an Authorised Representative of Financial Services Partners Pty Ltd and has been working as a Financial Planner with Mal Dobson & Associates since 2006. Alex has previously worked for the ANZ Bank, SIRCA and the University of Sydney. He has completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning), a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance Broking) and a Certificate in Self Managed Superannuation Funds.
Alex is an Associate member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia.
Matt Dobson
Paraplanner
Matt commenced working with Mal Dobson & Associates in late 2005 as a Paraplanner. His duties include preparation of Statement of Advices for clients and administration duties. Matt has completed a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance Broking) and is currently completing studies for the Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).
In 2011, Matt received the WA national customer service award for Financial Services Partners.
Linda Eidsvold
Office Manager
Linda commenced working with Mal Dobson & Associates in 1996 as an Office Administrator and is currently the Office Manager responsible for administration matters within the business. Linda has an extensive background in the financial services industry with employment at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and the Town and Country Building Society.
Louise Dobson
Office Administrator
Louise has worked with Mal Dobson & Associates in an administration capacity since 1987 when the business commenced. With experience in administration and financial services during employment with Town and Country Building Society and smaller businesses, she is well placed to ensure client matters are attended to promptly.
Christopher Dobson
Information Technology & Marketing Coordinator
Chris has worked in the information technology sector since 2002, having previously been employed as a website developer. He has completed a Certificate IV in Information Technology.
In addition to this role, Chris operates as a freelance website developer operating his own business, Nothinglastsforever. Chris is responsible for the computer development within the business and website maintenance.
